Body Parts Skin that Reveals Your Age
The face had always been the target of skin care and anti-aging products. It is quite understandable; it has always been the first body part that one will see and will probably be remembered the most when meeting people. We put so much effort into beautifying our faces to avoid wrinkles, crows’s feet and dryness that we forget other body parts that will also age.
We can’t stop time, but we can always delay aging. We just need to be extra careful.
Our hands are probably the most overworked part of our bodies and next to our face, it is probably the most exposed. Over time, fat at the back of the hands lessens and the skin can become dry, loose and wrinkly. The veins bulge and become more visible. Over time, due to sun exposure, age spots or sun spots may appear. Since our hands do so much for us, we ought to take of them.
Use mild soaps when washing your hands. Wear rubber gloves if you need to do chores like gardening, dishwashing or hand-washing. Chemicals in soaps and detergents can be harsh to your skin making them dry, and even to your nails, making them brittle. Always bring a bottle of moisturizer to hydrate the skin at the back of your hands, nails and cuticles.
Avoid sun exposure as the sun causes up to 95% of wrinkles, discoloration and lines on most parts of the body. If you must, wear sunblock especially at the back of your hands.
As you age, the skin on your neck region starts to sag, making it appear droopy. You can’t blame gravity for that! The neck muscle is prone to lose elasticity as it does not contain any oil gland, and will eventually appear dry and wrinkly.
Treat your neck region or décolleté as you would treat your face. Like what you do on your face, follow these 3 step solution everyday: cleanse, tone and moisturize. Exfoliate two to three times a week to buff the top layers of the skin. Cover your entire neck with sunscreen and reapply as often as needed. Use anti-wrinkling creams on your neck region every night.
Keep your chin up. Hanging your head down toward your chest regularly will likely develop creases in your neck. You’re also risking your neck for possible injury with this poor posture. Instead, keep your chin held high to keep your neck vertebrae in a neutral position.
Ask your dermatologist about topical Retin-A solutions or collagen that you can apply yourself two to three times in a week.
Like you face and neck, the skin in the chest area, is also susceptible to sun damage and the skin between the breasts will wrinkle as you age. Do the the 3 step solution, exfoliate and always wear sunblock.
Many women have considered medical treatments to delay aging. You can ask your doctor about non-invasive procedures such as laser treatments to smoothen fine lines and reduce discoloration. Dermabrasion will remove dead skin cells from the skin’s top layer. As for the chest area, Juvederm treatment may be advised. Juvederm is a filler that can plump up creased areas between the breasts.
Like any part that bends and stretches, the skin surrounding our knees, is also prone to wrinkling and drying. It can be a manifestation of drastic weight loss or too much sun exposure. As we get older, our bodies lose collagen, elastin and muscle mass, so the skin becomes loose.
We can minimize the dryness by constant moisturizing, but the sagging is hardly reversible. Procedures like liposculpture(by sucking fats from selected areas of the body) and knee lift (Demi Moore admittedly, had gone through this one) can be done by a plastic surgeon but it can be expensive.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.’ Your best aid in avoiding skin damage is to prevent it from happening. Always use sun protection, keep a healthy diet for more antioxidants, moisturize and always ensure that you’re hydrated.
Who knows? You might end up looking younger than your actual age.
